Verizon and Salt Lake Community College to Host Campus Panel Discussion to Stop Dating Abuse and Domestic Violence SALT LAKE CITY- According to a CDC report, more than 1 in 3 women and more than 1 in 4 men in the United States will experience rape, physical violence and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetimes.[i] Verizon and Salt Lake Community College want to stop dating abuse and domestic violence. For Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, students and local residents are invited to attend a brief (15 minute) screening of the documentary “Telling Amy’s Story.” It will be followed by a panel discussion and interactive Q&A session. A representative from YWCA Utah and Salt Lake Community College will be on-hand to discuss signs of abuse and how to get help. Salt Lake Community College will also participate in a phone drive contest to help HopeLine reach 1 million phone donations by the end of 2015. The school that collects the most phones and has the most attendees at the “Telling Amy’s Story” screening and discussion will win a $10,000 donation to a domestic violence support organization of their choice.
