Maxwell Dance Studio Benefit Show

Benefit Concert to help a West Jordan family in need.

Deboro Svay was diagnosed with dermatomyositis after several months of not being able to determine his illness. It began in the summer, when Deboro developed a bad cough. He went to the doctor and was tested for whooping cough. When the cough didn’t go away, they thought it was pneumonia. Then several rounds of antibiotics wouldn’t clear it up either. He was getting very weak and unable to breath, and they finally admitted him to the hospital. The staff at LDS Hospital couldn’t determine his illness, so he was life-flighted to the University of Utah Hospital and put on ECMO life support. After two months of testing, a biopsy came back positive for an autoimmune disease called dermatomyositis, a rare disease that attacks the tissues and muscles of the body. He was put on chemo drugs to try to stop the attack. We had so much hope and many amazing confirmations that he would make a recovery. But by mid-November his heart started to give out, and the doctors started telling us to say our goodbyes. Still, Deboro kept fighting though, doing physical therapy and using a recumbent medical bike in his hospital bed until the week he passed. He kept saying he would never give up on his chance to come home to his girls. His courage, faith and optimism were unfailing. His three daughters—Elle, Scarlett and Ivy—and wife, Alana, are truly devastated and broken-hearted, but are trying to pick up the pieces and make him proud. Every day at the hospital, Alana would tell him he was brave, strong and kind. And now their lives are devoted to his legacy and living out these three virtues. If you meet his daughters, I’m sure you will see the message of bravery, strength and kindness they are putting out into the world on his behalf. Deboro Svay, husband, father, son and friend was taken from us on November 24, 2019 We are all better people for getting the opportunity to meet this wonderful family and are heartbroken for their loss. Winter Benefit Show is January 18th at 11am at Copper Hills High School Auditorium. Tickets are $3 each and all ticket sales will be donated to the Svay Family. There will be a silent auction and donation opportunities before the show and during intermission.
