Through a combination of digital platforms, direct mail and in-person engagement, Kearns Improvement District officials connect with residents to share information about water quality, rates, infrastructure and regulatory topics.
KID’s public outreach efforts were recognized by the American Water Works Association with its prestigious 2026 Public Communications Award. This national honor is presented to water utility companies serving 5,000 to 25,000 customers who have created exemplary communications channels to serve the community.
“The award celebrates organizations that excel at building trust, promoting transparency and integrating public communication into core utility planning and management,” said KID General Manager/CEO Greg Anderson. “KID’s communications campaign centers on its promise that ‘KID cares,’ using consistent ‘We Care’ branding to educate customers, explain services and encourage water conservation.”
KID personnel also connect with residents at events and school programs, including an annual water conservation art contest that empowers students and their parents to spread conservation awareness at home.
The District has also launched platforms featuring the Lead and Copper Rule information hub and an interactive service line inventory map to help customers understand water infrastructure and protections.
These initiatives contributed to event participation, digital engagement, the broad adoption of advanced metering infrastructure and national recognition through EPA WaterSense awards.
“This award reflects our commitment to transparency, education and meaningful community connection. We are honored to serve our residents and proud that our outreach efforts are making a real difference.”
The award will be formally presented in June at AWWA’s Annual Conference & Exposition in Washington, D.C.
