A woman has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a man in his Taylorsville condo early Sunday morning, police report.

Ariana Aguilar, 44, faces charges of aggravated burglary and murder, both first-degree felonies. Authorities responded to a medical call at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Oct. 13 at a residence in the 2200 West block of 4100 South. Upon arrival, officers observed people leaving the scene.

Inside the condo, police found Aguilar in the bedroom with an unresponsive man, later identified as Jorge Llamas-Galaviz, who had suffered a gunshot wound to the neck. Galaviz was pronounced dead at the scene.

Aguilar then reportedly became involved in an altercation with another woman in the house. She was detained and taken to the police station. According to witnesses, there had been a party at the condo earlier that night, during which Aguilar and Galaviz had a heated argument. Witnesses stated Aguilar struck Galaviz before leaving, only to return later with two men and a woman.

Upon returning, Aguilar and her companions allegedly forced their way into the home and into Galaviz's bedroom. Witnesses reported hearing voices followed by a gunshot. The three people who had accompanied Aguilar fled the scene, while Aguilar stayed behind.

Police canvassed the neighborhood and discovered surveillance footage showing a red sedan parked near the residence. The footage captured three individuals leaving Galaviz’s home, returning to the vehicle, and driving away. Officers later located the red sedan in front of Aguilar’s residence in Ogden.

Aguilar’s daughter reportedly told police that her mother had called her from Galaviz’s home asking for a ride. The daughter, along with three juveniles, drove the red sedan to the condo, and she admitted that they had entered the home after Aguilar forced the door open.

In a statement to police, Aguilar admitted to having a relationship with Galaviz since the spring and that he had become upset with her over an undisclosed incident. He allegedly put her belongings outside and told her to leave. Aguilar claimed she waited outside in a nearby park and did not see anyone enter the condo. She said she heard a single gunshot and found Galaviz dead when she went inside. Aguilar denied involvement in his death and requested an attorney.

Galaviz's family members provided police with a recording in which Aguilar allegedly admitted to killing him with the help of her nephews.

Aguilar was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on charges of aggravated burglary and murder.
