Gallup Confirms – Utah Residents Most Positive About State Economy

Feb 22, 2016 11:36AM ● By Rachel Hall

SALT LAKE CITY— Utah is at the top of the Economic Confidence Index, a measure on economic conditions and outlook. According to a recent Gallup poll, 84 percent of Utahns describe the state economic conditions as “excellent/good” and 83 percent see the state economy as “getting better.” Nowhere in the nation are people so upbeat and positive.

The Gallup poll numbers demonstrate that conservative ideals firmly rooted in sensible fiscal policies, and collaboration with all facets of industry, education and government, yield not only immediate results, but the strongest outlook on the economy in the U.S. Utah leads the poll by a wide margin – 14 percent higher than the second placed North Dakota.

“Utah’s conservative governance approach continues to pay back dividends for Utah’s economy,” Gov. Gary R. Herbert said. “The Gallup findings are the result of years of thoughtful, practical policies put forward by our business, civic and educational leaders.”

Even with the high percentages of economic positivity, Utah continues to make positive gains including workforce development and STEM education. Through programs such as the Utah Aerospace Pathways program and STEMFEST, incremental steps are being taken to ensure all Utahns have equal opportunity to succeed and find employment.

Gov. Herbert continues to work with the legislature to push Utah into a better future. The administration will work to maintain sound fiscal policy and a sensible regulatory environment.
